About:
Denmark is known for its strong welfare state system, a mixed market capitalist economy and it is one of the most egalitarian societies in the world. In 2010 it was once again voted the happiest country in the world.
Denmark is also a nation, which is famed for its architects and designers; a nation which is the world pioneer in wind-power technology and green technology, a leader in the pharmaceutical and shipping industry, and the birthplace of the famous author and
poet H.C Andersen.
Denmark and India share a long history together. As one of the first European countries, Denmark in 1620 set up a trading station in India of the coast of Tamil Nadu. Ever since, the Indo-Danish relationship has evolved in different fields such as development
assistance, culture, and labour. In present time, the Indo-Danish bilateral cooperation is increasing. This reflects India’s significance as a global player and the EU’s and Denmark’s efforts to be constructive actors in India’s growth and transformation.
Denmark and India both have strong interest in developing and maintaining strong ties, not only commercially. Therefore, in 2008, a Joint India-Danish Commission was established as a partnership framework. The building of strong political and commercial ties
reflects the mutual understanding that today’s partnership bolsters tomorrow’s prosperity in Denmark and India.
