DEATH SENTENCE TO INDIANS IN KUWAIT
2260. SHRI NARAYAN LAL PANCHARIYA:
Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) whether Government has taken up the matter regarding award of death sentence to 15 Indian nationals in Kuwait with the Kuwait Government;
(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;
(c) whether Government has provided legal and consular aid to other Indian nationals lodged in Kuwait jails in securing their release;
(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, reasons therefor; and
(e) whether any of these arrested Indian nationals belong to Rajasthan and if so, the details thereof?
ANSWER

(a) Yes.
(b) The death sentences have been commuted to life imprisonment.
(c) & (d) Embassy’s consular officers/officials regularly visit Indian nationals lodged in Kuwaiti jails. In all deserving cases, consular/legal assistance and guidance are provided as per Ministry’s guidelines.
(e) State-wise information is not provided by the Kuwaiti authorities.
