ACTION AGAINST ILLEGAL INDIAN IMMIGRANTS IN US

Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state :-

(a) whether it is a fact that several Indians who entered through donkey route were recently deported from US, if so, the number of people shunted out by US Government to India during last three years;

(b) whether similar treatment was meted out to Indians in other countries, if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether such incident brought down the image of our country;

(d) if so, whether any action has been taken against such illegal Indian Immigrants; and

(e) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

ANSWER

(a) to (c) US Government usually deports individuals who are found to have (i) illegally entered the U.S., (ii) have overstayed their visa validity, (iii) have been found living in the U.S. without any documentation, or (iv) have criminal conviction against them. Government of India works in close coordination with the US Government on these deportation operations. All deportations are subject to an unambiguous verification of their Indian nationality.

The number of Indian nationals deported from the US to India in the last three years is placed below:

There is no accurate information available in respect of other countries.

(d & e) The State/UT governments are primarily responsible for prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of crimes related to human trafficking and illegal migration. The Central Government supplements the initiatives of the States/UTs through advisories, public awareness and information sharing, in coordination with 16 Protector of Emigrants (PoEs) offices across India. Several State/UT law enforcement agencies, in cordination with central agencies have conducted joint raids and taken strict action against illegal agents and networks involved in illegal migration, including filing of FIRs. Central agencies, including NIA have also identified several individuals for the purpose of filing FIRs in the matters related to human trafficking, which is an ongoing process.
