WALLET INTEGRATION OF INDIAN PASSPORTS

Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state :-
(a) whether the Government has examined the possibility of enabling Indian passports to be stored in a secure digital format, including integration with digital wallet platforms such as Apple Wallet and Google Wallet, if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the Ministry has held consultations with technology providers, smartphone manufacturers, or international agencies to assess the feasibility, security standards, and interoperability required for such digital passport integration, if so, the details thereof; and
(c) whether the Ministry plans to coordinate with the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) and the Bureau of Immigration to enable digital passport integration through India’s existing platforms such as DigiLocker or other secure government apps, if so, the details thereof?

(a & b) There is no such proposal currently under consideration of the Government of India.
(c) Immigration authorities under the Bureau of Immigration, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India has been provided limited access of passport data for verification of Indian passports at the time of crossing Indian immigration while travelling to and from India.
The Passport Seva Program has been integrated with DigiLocker to directly receive verified documents such as Aadhaar, Voter ID card, Driving Licence, PAN card and Secondary School Certificate/ Higher School Certificate. Ministry of External Affairs has also enabled secure passport validation on limited input parameters through the DigiLocker platform, in coordination with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
