MEDICAL EXAMINATION OF INDIAN WORKERS

†3594. SHRI AMRA RAM

Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:-

(b) whether the Government proposes to discontinue the said practice and authorise only the Government hospitals to conduct the medical examination as the labourers are being exploited by said private agencies in the name of medical examination; and

(c) if so, the timeframe by which it will be implemented?

ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS
(SHRI PABITRA MARGHERITA)

(a to c) Accreditation and authorisation of a medical centre for health examination of Indian workers seeking overseas employment is a prerogative of the concerned foreign Governments. These are based on the norms and typical requirements of the countries concerned. Being a sovereign matter, this exercise is carried out entirely by the foreign countries and implemented through their Embassies/Consulates in India. Government of India has no role in this process.
