Assistance by India to China for the victims of earthquake in Sichuan province

- A major earthquake had struck the Sichuan province on 12th May, 2008 with considerable loss of precious human lives.
- The President, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Vice President Mr. Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and External Affairs Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee have each sent messages of condolence to the government and people of China. In
their message, they had also conveyed India's readiness to provide assistance to supplement China's relief efforts.
- Keeping in view India's close and good neighbourly ties with China, the Government of India has decided to offer assistance of US $ 5 million to China for its relief activities for the victims of the earthquake. This amount would be utilized for relief
maaterial including blankets, tents, sleeping bags, medicines.
