November 11, 2021

For enhancing the welfare and assisting migrant workers going to the European Union, India Centre for Migration (ICM), a think tank of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and International Labour Organisation (ILO) have prepared a Pre Departure Orientation (PDO) handbook. This handbook was launched by Sh. Abbagani Ramu, Joint Secretary (OIA I) and CEO ICM, and Mr. Seppho Nurmi, Deputy Head of Mission, Delegation of the European Union to India and Bhutan at the National Launch Event of the Pre-Departure Handbook on 11 November 2021.

This handbook has been prepared under the technical project implementing the agreed actions of the India-EU Common Agenda for Migration and Mobility (CAMM). The handbook provides comprehensive information and guidance to Indian migrants who are seeking to emigrate to the European Union. It includes essential information such as processes involved in emigration to the European Union, the types of visas available, pre- arrival and post-arrival information which will serve as a guide for anyone wishing to migrate to the European Union. The handbook will be available online and will also be distributed widely.

This PDO handbook is an important addition to the Government of India’s efforts in imparting pre-departure orientation to all migrant desirous of working abroad. It will strengthen the efforts being made for ensuring safe and legal migration between India and the European Union.
