Visit of H.E. Mr. Johann Wadephul, Foreign Minister of Federal Republic of Germany to India (September 01–03, 2025)

H.E. Mr. Johann Wadephul, Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany paid an Official Visit to India from 01-03 September 2025. This is his first official visit to India in his capacity as German Foreign Minister. Foreign Minister Wadephul called on Hon’ble Prime Minister and held delegation level talks with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar (EAM) on 03 September 2025. He also met with Shri Piyush Goyal, Commerce & Industry Minister in New Delhi. During this visit, Minister Wadephul was accompanied by a high-level business delegation, reflecting the rapidly expanding economic partnership between India and Germany.

2. EAM and Foreign Minister Wadephul reviewed the entire gamut of our multifaceted Strategic Partnership and expressed satisfaction at the progress in diverse sectors, including trade & investment, defence & security, technology, science and innovation, green and sustainable development partnership, education and people-to-people ties. The two sides agreed on gratis visas for short-term school and college visits between our countries to further promote student exchanges and education ties.

3. The two sides also discussed recent developments in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the situation in Middle-East, cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region as well as other regional and global issues of mutual interest. Both sides are also working towards establishment of a new bilateral consultation mechanism on the Indo-Pacific region.

4. EAM conveyed Government of India’s appreciation for German government’s solidarity and strong support to India in the fight against terrorism.

5. The visit commenced in Bengaluru, where Foreign Minister Wadephul and his delegation interacted with German companies who have significant presence in India and visited prominent innovation and technology hubs on 02 September 2025. The engagements included meetings with leading Indian institutions like Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc). The visit to Bengaluru highlighted opportunities for enhanced collaboration in areas such as green technology, digital transformation, AI, space cooperation and sustainable urban development.

6. The visit comes at a time when India and Germany are celebrating 25 years of Strategic Partnership built on mutual trust, shared democratic values, commitment to global stability and sustainable development.
