NEW ROAD IN LADAKH SECTOR
667. SHRIMATI VIJILA SATHYANANTH:
Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) whether it is a fact that China has slammed India for apparently building a new road in the Ladakh sector; and
(b) if so, Government’s reaction the said outburst of China?

(a) & (b) While responding to a media query on India’s proposal to construct a road from Marsimik La to Hot Spring, on 24 August 2017, the Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson made statement critical of construction of such infrastructure by India near the Line of Actual Control.
Government gives careful and specific attention to the improvement of infrastructure for the development of border areas in order to facilitate the economic development of these areas as also to meet India’s strategic and security requirements. Government does not allow any interference with the right to undertake such improvement of infrastructure within India’s territory.
Government keeps a constant watch on all developments having a bearing on India’s security and takes all necessary measures to safeguard it.
