EVACUATION OF INDIANS FROM IRAN

Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:

(a) whether Government has undertaken any evacuation operation to bring back Indian nationals from Iran amid recent regional tensions and if so, the details thereof, including operation name, timeline and coordination mechanisms;

(b) the number of Indian citizens evacuated from different cities of Iran so far, category-wise including students, workers and professionals and whether Indians are still stranded there and if so, the details thereof; and

(c) whether special flights, land corridors or third-country transit arrangements were utilised for evacuation from Iran and if so, the details thereof and of the expenditure incurred by Government?

(a to c) At present, there are approximately 9,000 Indian nationals in Iran, consisting of students, business persons, persons on employment visa, tourists, pilgrims, seafarers and fishermen.

The well-being and security of the Indian community is Government’s overriding priority. The Embassy has activated emergency helplines and email to assist the Indian nationals in Iran. The Embassy has facilitated the relocation of several Indian students from cities like Tehran, Shiraz and Isfahan to other cities. The Embassy is also assisting Indian nationals who wish to cross over international borders from Iran. Accordingly, many students, traders and pilgrims have been assisted to crossover to Armenia and return home.
