It still functions along the rules of the last century. Developing countries should work together to ensure, that as it celebrates its 70th anniversary, the United Nations should look at the changed world with a new perspective. And that the world starts to focus on problems faced by countries like India and Bangladesh, as indeed all the SAARC nations, grappling with poverty. The world we live in knows how to fight a war when it happens, or how the army or air force should respond. But the world has still not found a way to deal with terrorism. And the UN too is unable to guide us on this matter. I am happy that the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, despite being a woman, has unequivocally expressed zero tolerance for terrorism. I applaud Sheikh Hasinaji who has the courage to state that she has zero tolerance for terrorism. Terrorism knows no borders or regions. India has borne its brunt for forty years. So many innocent lives have been destroyed; so much blood has been shed. And what have the terrorists achieved? What have they given to the world? Terrorism has no boundaries or territory. No principles, no values, no culture and no traditions. It is just an enemy of mankind. And therefore, whatever sect or community we may belong to, or whatever rituals we may practice – whether we believe in rituals or not, whether we believe in Ishwar or Allah or not – all humanitarian forces must stand united in this war being waged by those opposed to humanity. All nations who believe in humanity must come together. We must isolate and neutralise this mindset of terror. And therefore I welcome the zero- tolerance attitude of Bangladesh with regard to terror. I believe that tourism should be promoted between India and Bangladesh, indeed among all SAARC nations. Tourism unites the world, while terrorism divides the world. We should get to know each other. The younger generation should meet, interact and take pride in this. The more we interact and understand each other, the stronger we would be in our fight against terror. Let us work towards increasing this strength. We are not just close to each other; we are also together with each other
