I congratulate all those who are making this transition from battle to Buddha. And your presence in this assembly is a marker of this passage. That is why I am here to applaud you. I am sure you will compose a fine Constitution that will meet the hopes and desires of all the peoples of Nepal. Today, across all the regions of our planet, there still persist some groups whose creed is violence. They believe that weapons are the way to want fulfilment. But Nepal, when it brings forth its Constitution, would set an example before the world that life can be transformed even by abandoning arms and adopting articles (of Constitution). This is the wonderful task you are about to accomplish. A message will go to all those who believe in violence that guns and grenades do not help anyone; it is the democratic processes within a Constitutional framework that can achieve the desired objectives. This is the great work you have commenced, and those who had once put their trust in arms have now joined you in this mission. They have forsaken weapons and war, and taken to the path that leads to Lord Buddha. This noble endeavour that you are engaged in will compel a rethink among those all over the world who believe in violence. And if your enterprise is successful, this land of Buddha will have shown the world a new path to freedom from violence. This is the strength I see in your Constitution. And this is how I view this Constituent Assembly, and its capacity. India has always believed that it is not for us to intervene in your work. Our task is to support, if we can, in realising whatever you resolve or set out to do. It is not for us to give you a direction, or indeed to take you to your destination. Nepal is a sovereign nation. Our desire is merely that a sovereign Nepal rises to the heights of the Himalayas, and the whole world feels proud of it. That is the Nepal we wish to see. Therefore, as a neighbour, and with our experience as The brave-hearts of Nepal have never flinched from laying down their lives to safeguard India’s dignity and security. To these fearless Nepalis ever ready to martyr themselves for India, I would like to bow in homage
